Week 2: Personality Tests
Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test
This test was meant to determine your 4 letter personality type based on Carl Jung's and Myers-Briggs research. Many of the questions were obviously geared to test your introvertedness/extrovertedness, whether you used a logical way of thinking or emotions to guide your actions, or if you have a flexible thought process.
I got ISFJ (19%, 1%, 22%, 6%)
I had a slight preference of introversion, feeling, and judging, and marginal or no preference of sensing over intuition. I wasn't surprised by my results because I think of myself as more introverted around strangers and more of homebody. However, on other topics, I am more moderate instead of highly analytical or highly emotional.
I think this test was a good judge of personality because the results were what I thought my characteristics are like. The questions were hyperspecific and a lot of them seemed the same or at least really similar so it really narrowed down what type of person you are.
The Dark Side of Personality
This questionnaire contained Short Dark Triad questions that measure Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. These traits occur throughout the population but this test measures how prevalent it occurs in you to see whether you tend to be more mischievous and crazy instead of a rule-follower and calm.
On a score of 1-100:
Narcissism- 22
I expected a lower score here because I believe that I know my own weaknesses very well and the areas I can improve in.
Machiavellianism- 61
I had a slightly higher tendency toward machiavellianism which also doesn't surprise me because I treat people I don't know politely to project a good image of myself but when I'm with people I'm comfortable with then I don't worry as much about how I appear.
Psychopathy- 22
Thankfully I got a low score in this category. I often think about the consequences of my actions and I believe in following my morals when I do something that impacts others.
I think this test fits how I think of myself but I'm not sure of its total accuracy because people might deceive themselves on certain answers to get favorable results that they are a nice and empathetic person instead of a cynical and manipulative person.
Attraction Test
This test determined what types of people you are attracted to. I rated the attractiveness of various men's pictures on a scale of 1-10.
I tend to somewhat prefer people who are not counter-culture (mischievious, rebellious, non-traditional), being seductive is relatively unimportant for what I find attractive, I strongly prefer people that are cheerful, I somewhat prefer people that are intelligent and soft-hearted, and I somewhat prefer people that are trendy.
This test was slightly creepy because I was just judging people by appearance and I normally like judging people through social interaction. However, the results were what I expected because the things I disliked on first glance were lowly rated and things I found pleasing were also reflected highly in the results.
I think the test was fairly accurate because they say a person's first impression reflects a lot on how you judge them. The characteristics they said I tend to favor are what I look for in another person as well.
Implicit Association Test: Black and White Race
This test was a quick reflex test that told you to sort good and bad traits and pictures of white and black people. It basically tells you how racist you are.
My data suggested that I have a slight automatic preference for European American compared to African American. I am in the 12% of test takers that received this result. This result is not very surprising to me because I know most people unknowingly or don't want to admit their inherent racism, but most test takers tend to have a preference for white over black people.
I'm not sure about the accuracy for this test because I don't see the correlation between me picking words and the pictures. I got used to putting words and pictures of one race on one side so when it switched my brain got confused. It wasn't that I specifically associated the bad words with the pictures of black people. I think that if I had done the good words with black people as the first step of the test my results would come out the opposite way.
Accident Proneness Test
This test shows one's tendency toward accident proneness that takes into account behavioral, attitudinal, and personality factors. It asks questions about how capable you are of handling stress that goes along with physically risky situations, how prone I am to accidents in general, and how likely I am to take unwise physical risks.
On a scale of 1-100 I received a 46 which means I scored fairly low Sensation-Seeking. I can be adventurous but I tend to be more of a rule follower. I also decide whether or not to seek thrills on a case by case basis depending on my mood or what the specific situation is. I agree with these results because I often question the results of my action before I jump in so the consideration before doing anything makes me less of a risk taker at certain times. However I do love activities that give me adrenaline such a riding on roller coasters or physically active activities so I do enjoy thrill seeking in that aspect.
I think that this assessment is fairly accurate because it tests your impulsiveness and how likely you are to be invigorated by intense, new situations or whether you tend to be more cautious. Since you know what kind of risks you take day to day, you are likely to answer the questions with a high accuracy.

I thought this article was interesting because it compared the personality test to believing in zodiac signs and basically said you shouldn't base your whole life around what those 4 letters tell you.
